Traditional Chinese Fortune Cake Recipe

Fa Gao, often referred to as Prosperity Cake, Lucky Cake, or Fortune Cake, is a special Chinese treat traditionally made and enjoyed during Chinese New Year celebrations. This delightful cake is believed to bring prosperity in the coming year. When properly prepared, Fa Gao has a unique appearance as its top splits open into what resembles a smile, although it should actually divide into four segments. However, “Fa” also signifies prosperity, which is why it is consumed during Chinese New Year festivities to attract good luck and fortune. You can savor this traditional Chinese fortune cake as a symbolic and delicious dessert right at home.
