The Spider Roll, aptly named for its distinctive appearance resembling spider legs protruding from the roll’s end, is a popular makizushi sushi variant. While its name is predominantly used in America, this delectable roll can be a rare find in other parts of the world. The Spider Roll features breaded or fried soft-shell crab nestled within a nori and sushi rice wrap, adorned with various toppings like cucumbers, avocado, radish sprouts, or cabbage, and often accompanied by a drizzle of spicy mayonnaise. The crab legs extending beyond the sushi roll give it its spider-like appearance, making it visually striking. This roll is particularly appealing for those who are not fond of raw fish, as it contains no raw seafood. It’s typically served with sides of wasabi and soy sauce and is a delightful appetizer or snack option.
