INGREDIENTS:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3½ cups 2% milk
- ½ cup whipping cream (35%)
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 fresh bay leaf
- ½ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp pepper
DIRECTIONS:
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add flour and stir constantly for 2 minutes without browning.
- Whisk in milk, cream, garlic, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a boil, whisking often.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Strain through a fine-mesh sieve.
