INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3½ cups 2% milk
  • ½ cup whipping cream (35%)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 fresh bay leaf
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ⅛ tsp pepper

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add flour and stir constantly for 2 minutes without browning.
  3. Whisk in milk, cream, garlic, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring to a boil, whisking often.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve.
