My grill pan is a kitchen essential and one of my favorite cooking tools. It allows me to achieve the delicious flavors of outdoor grilling, even when I’m cooking indoors. Whether it’s succulent pork tenderloins, perfectly cooked salmon, crispy bacon, or quick chicken breasts, my grill pan delivers excellent results every time. The raised ridges not only create appealing grill marks but also elevate the meats, preventing them from sitting in excess fat and promoting healthier cooking. In this recipe, I’ll share how to prepare perfectly grilled salmon filets using the grill pan, a delightful dish that serves four.
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS:
- 4 4-ounce salmon filets
- ½ tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Preheat the Grill Pan: Place the grill pan over high heat and let it preheat. Meanwhile, take the salmon filets and blot them with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture.
- Brush with Olive Oil: Using a pastry brush or a paper towel, carefully brush each salmon filet with olive oil. This step ensures that the salmon won’t stick to the grill pan and helps to create a beautiful sear.
- Cook the Salmon Filets: Lay the salmon filets on the grill pan, skin side down. Season the top side of the filets with salt and pepper while they cook. Grill the salmon over medium/high heat for about 4 minutes on the first side. You’ll notice the color changing about halfway up the side of the filets.
- Flip and Cook Further: Once you see the color change on the side of the filets, carefully flip them over using a spatula. Sprinkle the newly exposed side with salt and pepper. Continue cooking for an additional 3 to 4 minutes.
- Rest the Salmon: Once the salmon filets are cooked to perfection, remove them from the grill pan and transfer them to a plate. Cover the plate tightly with aluminum foil and let the salmon rest for 10 minutes. Resting allows the juices to redistribute and ensures moist and tender salmon.
TIPS:
- To achieve the best grill marks, resist the temptation to move the salmon filets too early. Let them cook undisturbed for 2 to 3 minutes on each side before flipping.
- For a beautiful presentation, you can garnish the grilled salmon with fresh herbs like dill or parsley before serving.
- To check if your grill pan is properly heated, use the palm test. Hold your palm about 4 to 6 inches away from the cooking surface. If you can keep your hand in place for more than 3 seconds, the pan is not ready. When you can’t hold your hand over the pan for 3 seconds, it’s time to add the salmon.
- For added flavor, you can marinate the salmon filets in a mixture of herbs, lemon juice, and olive oil for 30 minutes to an hour before grilling.
Enjoy the simplicity and deliciousness of grilled salmon filets cooked to perfection in your grill pan. This recipe is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a special gathering with friends and family. Get creative and pair the salmon with your favorite side dishes for a delightful meal. Happy cooking!
