INGREDIENTS:

 

MARINADE

  • 1 egg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 pound flank steak, sliced into thin strips

 

SAUCE

  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed chili pepper
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

 

OTHER

  • 6 tablespoons cornstarch, for dusting
  • Oil, for frying

 

VEGETABLES

  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 medium diced red bell pepper
  • 1 medium diced green bell pepper
  • 1 medium sliced white onion

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a bowl or sealable bag, combine all marinade ingredients (egg, salt, water, cornstarch) and mix well. Add the sliced beef and marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. While the beef is marinating, mix all of the sauce ingredients together (water, sugar, ketchup, vinegar, crushed chili pepper, cornstarch) in a bowl and refrigerate.
  3. When the beef is done marinating, coat the slices with 6 tablespoons of cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
  4. In a deep fryer or wok, heat oil for frying. Deep fry the coated beef slices in batches until they float or turn golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. In the same wok or a separate pan, add a couple tablespoons of oil and stir-fry the minced garlic for 10 seconds. Then add the diced red and green bell peppers and sliced white onion, and stir-fry for 2 minutes. Remove the vegetables from the wok and set aside.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture into the wok and heat until it boils and thickens.
  7. In a serving dish, add the fried beef slices and stir in the cooked vegetables. Coat the dish with the prepared sauce.
