Medium-boiled eggs are a simple and delicious way to enjoy eggs with a firm white and a delightfully runny yolk. They are a great alternative to poached eggs, offering a similar texture and ease of preparation. With this recipe, you’ll learn how to achieve perfectly cooked medium-boiled eggs that can be enjoyed as is or reheated if desired. In just about 10 minutes, you can savor these eggs seasoned with salt and pepper for a delightful breakfast or snack.

MAKES: 1 serving

TIME: About 10 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 egg
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Fill a saucepan about two-thirds full of water and bring it to a gentle boil.
  2. Use a spoon or any other convenient tool to carefully lower the egg into the gently boiling water.
  3. Adjust the heat so the water barely simmers, then cook the egg for 6 to 7 minutes. The shorter cooking time will result in a runny yolk but may leave some parts of the white undercooked. On the other hand, the longer cooking time will fully cook the white, but the yolk may become slightly hardened. Feel free to try both methods and determine your preferred consistency.
  4. To remove the shell, place the saucepan under cold running water for 30 to 60 seconds. This will help cool the egg and make it easier to handle.
  5. Gently crack and peel the shell, being careful to preserve the shape of the medium-boiled egg. Treat it with the same care as you would a hard-boiled egg during peeling.
  6. Sprinkle the medium-boiled egg with salt and freshly ground black pepper according to your taste.
  7. Serve your perfectly cooked medium-boiled egg and enjoy!

Note:

If you wish to reheat the medium-boiled egg after shelling, simply dip it in simmering water for about 30 seconds to warm it through.

With this recipe, you can experience the pleasure of breaking into a medium-boiled egg and savoring the contrasting textures of the firm white and the luscious runny yolk. These eggs make a wonderful addition to your breakfast spread or can be enjoyed as a quick and satisfying snack.
