Look, garlic is garlic. It’s got serious, tongue-tingling flavor—but as long as you’re both eating it, what’s wrong with that? In this classic Glamour recipe, cutting slits in the bread helps the buttery goodness soak all the way through. A perfect side for lasagne or spaghetti and meatballs, this garlic bread also goes nicely with a salad or soup.
SERVES: 6
INGREDIENTS:
- 4 garlic cloves, peeled
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1½ tablespoons chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- 1 French baguette or Italian loaf
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Using a garlic press, a mortar and pestle, or the back of a large, heavy knife, crush the garlic cloves. In a small bowl, combine the butter, garlic, and parsley and mix well. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Make shallow cuts in the bread loaf at approximately 2-inch intervals as if you’re making slices, but be sure not to cut all the way down to the bottom. Push 1 teaspoon of the butter mixture into each slice. (Alternatively, slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise and spread the butter mixture on each side.) Dab any extra garlic-butter mix on the outside of the loaf.
- Wrap the loaf completely in aluminum foil and transfer it to the oven.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until the bread is crisp and the garlic is fragrant.
- Slice and serve.
