Béchamel sauce, also known as white sauce, is a classic French sauce that serves as a base for many dishes. This homemade béchamel sauce recipe allows you to create a smooth and creamy sauce right in your own kitchen. Made with milk, butter, flour, and a few flavorings, béchamel sauce adds richness and depth to a variety of recipes. By gently simmering the milk with bay leaf, black peppercorns, and onion, the flavors infuse into the sauce. The butter and flour are then cooked together to create a smooth paste, known as a roux. Gradually adding the milk and whisking vigorously ensures a lump-free and velvety texture. Simmering the sauce gently allows it to thicken and develop flavor. Season with salt and pepper to enhance the taste. Use this homemade béchamel sauce as a base for creamy pasta dishes, gratins, and more. Mastering the art of béchamel sauce will elevate your culinary skills and open up a world of possibilities in your cooking.
