The flavor of dulce de leche is very similar to caramel but with a bit more milk and a little less sugar. If you are lucky, you can find cans of dulce de leche on your supermarket shelf, often with sweetened condensed milks, or you can make your own.
YIELD: 1 QUART
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup cream
- 2 (14-ounce) cans dulce de leche
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- In a medium saucepan, bring milk and cream to a boil. Remove from heat and whisk in dulce de leche and vanilla. Refrigerate for 4 hours.
- Add to ice cream maker and follow manufacturer’s instructions for freezing.
