SOUR CHERRY AND VODKA SAUCE

A fancy sauce is a terrific way to dress up all sorts of desserts. Serve this cherry-vodka
blend warm over crêpes with a bit of mascarpone cheese or cold over ice cream.

about 2 cups

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2¼ cups thawed frozen or canned sour cherries in juice
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ cup vodka
  • 1 tsp vanilla

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Reserving juice, drain cherries.
  2. In saucepan, bring cherries, ¼ cup of the cherry juice, sugar and lemon juice to boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer until reduced to 1¾ cups, 12 to 15 minutes.
  4. Stir in vodka and vanilla.
  5. Let cool slightly before serving. (Make-ahead: Refrigerate in airtight container for up to 5 days. Reheat before using, if desired.)
