This is a simple and elegant tart. The almond filling caramelizes as it cooks, creating a golden sheen that looks great with fresh berries and whipped cream. For an extra special treat, drizzle semisweet chocolate across the top.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup sliced almonds
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon kirsch
  • 1 tablespoon Grand Marnier™
  • 2 drops almond extract

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Combine filling ingredients in a heavy saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until mixture thickens and becomes golden brown, approximately 20 minutes.
  3. Pour into prepared tart shell.
  4. Bake at 350° for 50 minutes to 1 hour. Filling will bubble and rise slightly in pan and then settle.
  5. Tart is done when filling has caramelized and turned a deep golden brown.
  6. Cool completely before serving.
  7. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream, or fill a pastry bag with whipped cream and pipe cream around the edge of the tart.
