This is a simple and elegant tart. The almond filling caramelizes as it cooks, creating a golden sheen that looks great with fresh berries and whipped cream. For an extra special treat, drizzle semisweet chocolate across the top.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup sliced almonds
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/5 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon kirsch
- 1 tablespoon Grand Marnier™
- 2 drops almond extract
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Combine filling ingredients in a heavy saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until mixture thickens and becomes golden brown, approximately 20 minutes.
- Pour into prepared tart shell.
- Bake at 350° for 50 minutes to 1 hour. Filling will bubble and rise slightly in pan and then settle.
- Tart is done when filling has caramelized and turned a deep golden brown.
- Cool completely before serving.
- Serve with a dollop of whipped cream, or fill a pastry bag with whipped cream and pipe cream around the edge of the tart.
