FOR GRILLED DISHES

Yep, it’s bacon salt, and you know you want it. This is really a finishing condiment, best sprinkled over grilled chicken as it’s coming off the fire. Try it on grilled asparagus or tomatoes, too.

Prosciutto Finishing Salt is a delectable culinary creation that combines the rich flavors of crispy prosciutto with the subtle seasoning of salt. This simple yet ingenious concoction adds an irresistible twist to a wide range of dishes, from salads and pastas to roasted vegetables and even desserts. The beauty of Prosciutto Finishing Salt lies in its versatility – a small sprinkle of this unique seasoning can instantly transform an ordinary dish into a culinary masterpiece.

To prepare Prosciutto Finishing Salt, delicate slices of prosciutto are baked until crispy, rendering them not only savory but also delightfully crunchy. These crisped prosciutto pieces are then blended with kosher or coarse sea salt to create a finely textured finishing salt that’s perfect for enhancing the flavors of various foods. The saltiness of the prosciutto is balanced by its natural umami, resulting in a seasoning that amplifies the taste of dishes without overpowering them.

This finishing salt can be used in a variety of creative ways. Simply sprinkle it over a fresh salad to add a gourmet touch, or use it to season roasted vegetables for an extra layer of complexity. It can also be paired with sweet treats – a pinch of Prosciutto Finishing Salt on a chocolate dessert can provide a surprising and delightful contrast of flavors.

The convenience of Prosciutto Finishing Salt lies not only in its ease of preparation but also in its lasting quality. Stored in a covered container in the refrigerator, this finishing salt can be enjoyed for up to three weeks, ensuring that you always have a unique seasoning on hand to elevate your culinary creations. With Prosciutto Finishing Salt, even the simplest of dishes can be elevated to new heights of flavor sophistication.

MAKES: ABOUT ½ CUP

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 paper-thin slices prosciutto
  • ¼ cup kosher salt or coarse sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lay the prosciutto slices flat on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake the prosciutto in the preheated oven until crispy, about 20 minutes.
  4. Drain the crispy prosciutto on paper towels to remove excess grease.
  5. Transfer the crispy prosciutto to a blender along with the kosher salt.
  6. Grind the mixture in bursts in the blender until the prosciutto and salt are fairly fine in texture.
  7. Use the crispy prosciutto salt immediately to add flavor to your dishes.
  8. Alternatively, you can store the crispy prosciutto salt in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
  9. Sprinkle the crispy prosciutto salt over your dishes just like you would with regular salt to enhance their flavor.

TIPS:

  • Balancing Act: Prosciutto Finishing Salt is inherently salty due to the prosciutto itself, so it’s important to consider the existing salt content of your dish before adding it. Taste your dish first and then sprinkle on the finishing salt as needed to avoid over-salting.
  • Enhancing Savory Dishes: This salt works wonders on savory dishes like roasted meats, grilled vegetables, or pasta. Its umami-rich profile can complement the natural flavors of these foods, adding depth and complexity.
  • Contrasting Flavors: Don’t be afraid to experiment with contrasts. Try a sprinkle of Prosciutto Finishing Salt on sweet dishes like caramel desserts or even fruit salads to create an intriguing contrast of flavors.
  • Texture Matters: Apart from flavor, consider the texture. The crispy texture of the prosciutto can add a delightful crunch to dishes, so think about where this textural element might work best.
  • Garnish with Style: Enhance the visual appeal of your dishes by using Prosciutto Finishing Salt as a garnish. The reddish hue of the prosciutto against a pale backdrop can be quite striking.
