This recipe brings together the delightful flavors of Asian Spiced Burgers transformed into savory meatballs, served with a rich tomato sauce. Accompanied by perfectly crispy potatoes, this meal offers a harmonious blend of textures and tastes. It’s a simple yet satisfying dish that can be prepared quickly in the air fryer.
INGREDIENTS:
- One box Asian Spiced Burgers, thawed and rubbed
- One onion, finely chopped
- Three sprigs of fresh rosemary, stalks cut and finely chopped
- Two teaspoons of Dijon mustard
- One to two teaspoons of dried oregano
- Two green chilies, finely chopped
- Two tablespoons of chickpea flour (or all-purpose meal)
- Two to three tablespoons of water
- One can of tinned sliced tomatoes or your choice of pasta sauce
- Half a cup of tomato sauce
INSTRUCTIONS:
PREPARE THE MEATBALL MIX:
- In a bowl, combine the grated Asian Spiced Burgers with finely chopped onions, rosemary, Dijon mustard, dried oregano, finely chopped green chilies, chickpea flour (or all-purpose flour), and water. Mix everything thoroughly to create a batter that can be rolled into balls.
SHAPE THE MEATBALLS:
- Use your hands to shape the batter into small meatballs. Place them on a plate and set them aside in the fridge for 5 minutes to firm up.
COOK THE MEATBALLS IN THE AIR FRYER:
- Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (390°F).
- Place the meatballs in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are evenly spaced.
- Cook the meatballs at 200°C for 8 minutes or until they are nicely browned and cooked through.
PREPARE THE SAUCE:
- Transfer the cooked meatballs to a small ovenproof plate.
- Pour the tinned tomatoes (or pasta sauce) and tomato sauce over the meatballs.
- Place the plate in the Air fryer basket. Alternatively, create a foil “dish” and place the meatballs and tinned tomatoes in it.
HEAT THE MEATBALLS AND SAUCE:
- Slide the plate (or foil dish) into the air fryer.
- Set the temperature to 170°C (340°F) and the timer for 5 minutes to warm everything through.
PREPARE THE POTATOES:
- While the meatballs are cooking, prepare the potatoes. If the potatoes are large, slice them in half.
- Cut slits about 0.5-1 cm apart and 1 cm from the base into the potatoes.
COOK THE POTATOES IN THE AIR FRYER:
- Gently brush the potatoes with olive oil (optional).
- Cook the potatoes at 200°C (390°F) in the air fryer for 15 minutes.
BRUSH WITH OIL AND SEASON:
- Open the air fryer and brush the potatoes with oil again if necessary.
- Sprinkle the potatoes with herbs and salt.
- Continue to cook for another 15 minutes or until the potatoes are cooked through and crispy on the outside.
SERVE THE MEAL:
- Plate the crispy potatoes alongside the meatballs and sauce.
- Garnish the dish with fresh rosemary and serve with a side of green salad.
TIPS:
- When shaping the meatballs, wet your hands slightly to prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands.
- Feel free to adjust the level of spiciness by adding more or fewer green chilies, depending on your preference.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, you can also bake the meatballs and potatoes in a conventional oven. Just adjust the cooking times and temperatures accordingly.
- Customize the potato seasoning by adding your favorite herbs and spices for a personalized touch.
- Serve this hearty meal with a side of fresh green salad to balance out the flavors and add some freshness to your plate.
