SERVES: 1

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 plain hamburger bun
  • 1/3 pound ground beef
  • 2 slices American cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Thousand Island salad dressing
  • 1 slice fresh tomato
  • 1 lettuce leaf
  • 1 thin slice of onion

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat a frying pan or grill. Lightly toast both halves of the hamburger bun and set them aside.
  2. Divide the ground beef into two equal portions and shape them into patties. Season the patties with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook the beef patties on the preheated frying pan or grill for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
  4. Place a slice of American cheese on each cooked patty and allow it to melt.
  5. To assemble the burger, start with the bottom bun and spread the Thousand Island dressing on it.
  6. Add the slice of fresh tomato, followed by the lettuce leaf.
  7. Place one cooked patty with melted cheese on top of the lettuce.
  8. Add the thin slice of onion.
  9. Place the second cooked patty with melted cheese on top of the onion.
  10. Finish by topping the burger with the remaining half of the bun.

VARIATIONS:

  • Animal Style: One of the most popular variations at In-N-Out is ordering your Double-Double Burger “Animal Style.” This adds grilled onions, extra Thousand Island spread, and mustard cooked onto the patty, giving the burger a unique and flavorful twist.
  • Protein Style: If you’re looking for a low-carb option or prefer a lettuce wrap, you can order your Double-Double Burger “Protein Style.” This means the burger is served without the bun and wrapped in a crisp lettuce leaf instead.
  • Add-ons: While the Double-Double Burger comes with the standard toppings, you can customize it by adding extras such as pickles, extra cheese, or even bacon to enhance the flavors and create your perfect combination.
  • Sauce Options: If you want to change up the flavor profile, you can request different sauces or condiments to accompany your Double-Double Burger. For example, you can ask for extra spread, ketchup, or mustard, or even try dipping your burger in In-N-Out’s signature “Spread” on the side.
