  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 small onion, finely minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  1. In a saucepan, add the olive oil. Heat over medium heat until warm.
  2. Add the finely minced onions and cook for about 5 minutes until they become translucent.
  3. Add the finely minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes, ensuring the fragrance is released.
  4. Now, stir in the ketchup, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and water.
  5. Sprinkle in the garlic powder, salt, and ground black pepper, ensuring all the flavors come together.
  6. Allow the sauce to cook and simmer for approximately 20 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly and develop its rich taste.
  7. Taste the sauce and adjust the salt and pepper as needed to suit your preference.
  8. Once done, your homemade BBQ sauce is ready to use immediately, especially delicious when slathered over ribs. If you have any leftovers, you can store the sauce in the refrigerator. It will keep well for 2 to 3 days, allowing you to enjoy its incredible flavors even longer.

  • Customize to Taste: While this BBQ sauce recipe is already packed with delicious flavors, feel free to adjust the seasonings to suit your personal preferences. If you prefer it spicier, add a dash of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes. For a smokier taste, consider incorporating a bit of liquid smoke.
  • Consistency Matters: If you desire a thicker sauce, simply let it simmer a bit longer to reduce and thicken. On the other hand, if you prefer a thinner consistency, you can add a little water to achieve the desired texture.
  • Enhance the Flavor: For an extra dimension of taste, try experimenting with different types of vinegar. Apple cider vinegar adds a slightly sweet and fruity note, but you can also use balsamic vinegar for a richer, more robust flavor.

  • Mustard BBQ Sauce: Swap out the tomato paste for ¼ cup of Dijon mustard and ¼ cup of honey mustard. This tangy and savory variation is particularly fantastic with pork.
  • Mango Habanero BBQ Sauce: Puree a ripe mango and mix it into the sauce. For an extra spicy kick, add finely chopped habanero pepper. This vibrant and tropical sauce is perfect for grilled shrimp or fish.
  • Coffee-Chipotle BBQ Sauce: Brew a strong cup of coffee and add it to the sauce along with finely minced chipotle peppers. The deep, smoky flavors of coffee will complement the spiciness of chipotle beautifully.
  • Citrus-Ginger BBQ Sauce: Zest and juice an orange or a lime, and add grated ginger to the sauce. This tangy and aromatic variation pairs wonderfully with grilled veggies or tofu.

Enjoy your finger-licking BBQ sauce, and get ready to add an explosion of taste to your favorite dishes!
