WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS Once you taste this creamy, tangy, oniony dip, you’ll wonder why you ever bothered with the powdered soup-mix version. We showcased the savory-sweet flavor of caramelized onions, accented by fresh chives, in this homemade version of the party classic. The minced chives offered a burst of oniony freshness to counterbalance the sweetness of the caramelized onions, and the combination of sour cream and yogurt gave the dip its tangy depth without being too rich. The dip should be refrigerated for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavors meld. It can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours before serving. Serve this with potato chips, naturally.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ⅔ cup caramelized onions, chopped fine
  • ⅓ cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh chives
  • ¾ teaspoon white vinegar
  • Salt and pepper

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Combine sour cream, onions, yogurt, chives, vinegar, ½ teaspoon salt, and ⅛ teaspoon pepper in serving bowl.
  2. Refrigerate dip for at least 1 hour.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Serve.
