INGREDIENTS:

  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup canola oil
  • 3 tablespoons dark corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared mustard
  • 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
  • 1 garlic clove, minced

BRISKET:

  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 fresh beef brisket (2 to 2½ pounds), trimmed

PREPARATIONS:

  1. Prepare the delicious barbecue sauce by combining brown sugar, ketchup, water, cider vinegar, canola oil, dark corn syrup, prepared mustard, horseradish, and minced garlic in a saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat for 3-4 minutes or until the brown sugar is dissolved. Transfer the sauce to a disposable aluminum pan.
  2. Heat canola oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the beef brisket on all sides. Place the brisket in the aluminum pan, turning it to coat with the flavorful sauce. Cover the pan tightly with foil.
  3. Grill the brisket over indirect medium heat for 2 to 2¼ hours until the meat becomes fork-tender, adding additional briquettes as needed to maintain the heat.
  4. After grilling, remove the brisket from the pan and tent it with foil. Let it rest for 10 minutes. Skim the fat from the sauce in the pan. Finally, cut the brisket diagonally across the grain into thin slices and serve with the delectable sauce.
