So, let’s dive into the ingredients and step-by-step instructions to create these delightful tarts, and we’ll also share some handy tips along the way.

INGREDIENTS:

  • All-purpose flour
  • 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry (490 grams or half of 17.3 ounces), thawed
  • 3/4 cup of shredded cheese (Monterey Jack, Gruyere, or Cheddar)
  • 4 large eggs, separated
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh chives or parsley (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preparing the Pastry: Unfold the sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and divide it into four squares.
  2. Air Frying the Pastry: Place two of the pastry squares inside the air fryer basket, making sure to separate them. Air fry for ten minutes or until the pastry becomes crispy, golden, and shiny.
  3. Creating Indentations: Use the back of a metal spoon to create an indentation in the center of each pastry square.
  4. Adding Cheese and Eggs: Sprinkle three tablespoons of shredded cheese into each indentation (about 45 mL), and gently crack an egg into the center of each pastry square.
  5. Air Frying the Tarts:  Air fry for seven to eleven minutes or until the eggs reach your desired level of doneness. Transfer the tarts to a wire rack placed over parchment paper and let them cool for five minutes. If desired, garnish with fresh parsley or chives.
  6. Serving and Repeating:  Serve the tarts hot, and repeat steps two through seven with the remaining pastry squares, cheese, eggs, and parsley (if used).

ADDITIONAL TIPS:

  • The puff pastry sheet should yield approximately nine-inch squares. If your pastry sheet comes in a different shape or size, feel free to trim or roll it as needed to create nine-inch squares.
  • Air fryers can get quite hot, especially when preheated to high temperatures. Be sure to use oven mitts or pads when handling the basket, opening, or closing it.
  • Gently beat the eggs in a small bowl before adding them to the pastry to make it easier to pour into the indentation.
  • This recipe yields four tarts, making it easy to adjust the quantity for your needs.

These Egg and Bacon Breakfast Tarts are a delightful fusion of textures and flavors, sure to please your palate and impress your guests. Whether you serve them for breakfast, brunch, or as a tasty snack, they are a versatile addition to your culinary repertoire.
