As the name suggests, it strikes a harmonious balance between the sweet and the savory, creating a captivating fusion that enhances the natural sweetness of the fruits while introducing a subtle layer of complexity.

With just a handful of ingredients – unsweetened white grape juice, olive oil, minced fresh herbs like lemon verbena, lemon thyme, or mint, and a touch of salt – this baste brings together elements that not only complement the fruits but also add a refreshing depth of flavor. The unsweetened white grape juice, a base for the baste, imparts a gentle fruitiness without overpowering the natural taste of the fruits.

The use of fresh herbs like lemon verbena, lemon thyme, or mint introduces a bright and aromatic quality to the baste. These herbs provide a fragrant backdrop that beautifully contrasts the sweetness of the grilled fruits. The addition of olive oil not only aids in distributing the flavors evenly but also adds a touch of richness to the baste, contributing to a more rounded taste profile.

This baste is not just about adding flavor; it’s also about enhancing the overall grilling experience. As you baste the fruits with the Sweetly Savory Fruit Baste, the aromas that waft from the grill will awaken your senses and tantalize your taste buds. The slight savory notes from the herbs and salt are expertly balanced by the sweetness of the grape juice, creating a delightful harmony that works well with a variety of fruits.

It offers a fantastic way to introduce an unexpected twist to your fruit-focused grilling endeavors. MAKES: ABOUT 11¼ CUPS

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup unsweetened white grape juice
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh lemon verbena, lemon thyme, or mint, or a combination
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt or coarse sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Warm the Ingredients: In a small saucepan, combine the unsweetened white grape juice, olive oil, minced fresh lemon verbena (or lemon thyme or mint), and kosher salt.
  2. Heat the Mixture: Warm the mixture in the saucepan over low heat. You don’t need to bring it to a boil; just warm it gently to allow the flavors to blend.
  3. Baste the Fruit: Once the mixture is warm, use it as a baste for grilling fruit. You can brush it over the fruit once near the end of the grilling process. This baste adds a burst of flavor and helps enhance the natural sweetness of the fruit.
  4. Leftovers: If you have any leftover baste, you can refrigerate it in a covered container for up to a week. Before using it again, you might want to warm it slightly to make it easier to brush onto the fruit.
